Default Blue Moon

I heard of a moassel recently called Blue Moon which I understand claims to use only natural flavourings, no dye and unwashed tobacco. Apparently you can buy it Spain but I don't know any smokers there and i'd assume it's from someplace else. Anyone here ever try or heard about it?

I've never heard of it, but it should be noted that every new brand that's come out lately has claimed to be this or that.Remember Tonic? Claimed to be made using recipies from moassel masters who's product is bought by wealthy gulf sheiks for 100s of dollars? It would be great to have a natural unwashed product, but I'm not holding my breathe. (am I being too negative?)

Pretty funny. I never heard about the oil sheiks thing but that's a trip. Blue Moon Bier is really good stuff however. Agree with you about the hype so yeah, it may suck. Still, at least we've got DM and as cheap as it I suppose we can't complain.

while looking for it i found this egypyptian (?) site with traditional moassel
http://www.elmaallem.com/home.php
There seem to be some interesting ones which are also really cheap but they only sell in cartons of 10 at least.

I've had a few of the brands they sell and they are meant to look Egyptian but they are actually Indian. the good news is that they are amazingly good. El Gondoul, El Kif and Arous El Nile are really great but unfortunately I don't have a good source. I would guess that the shipping will double the cost and 60-80 quid a kilo is not cheap.

Ya that would be a bit much. I need to do some more traveling in the areas of the world that shisha smoking is common. Living where I do greatly limits what i can get my hnads on. the internet helps that sometimes.

they are listed at $8 US per 250g plus the shipping. could be worse.

tonic claimed that? you gotta be kidding me. they just copied sb all the way only forgot to add the same quality, or do what they should have, make it better than sb, what a joke brand.
the problem with most shisha is that it's produced by people who don't smoke all the time, (well maybe cigs but def not shisha) it's not their passion, the only passion they have is making $$$. I have the same passion for making money however I would only make a product that I would consume all the time and enjoy it.
the only company i know of that has a strong passion for what they make is tangiers. the guy knows exactly what he is making and smokes it all day. while it may not be for everyone the work ethic is admirable.
damit, time for a new years resolution....

I think you are right John. I get the impression that far too many brands that seem to be popping up are started by a rich guys jumping on a bandwagon in order to rake in some quick cash. So many of the brands on the market are at best mediocre and I don't think that the people that make them have any real love of the product.

As to Blue Moon, well I have no idea if it's any good.

What is needed is for someone to import the countless brands from India, Iran and the various Arabic countries that one can only buy by visiting those places or by buying large quantities shipped at shocking prices. I personally would rather smoke El Kif, Abu Sheesha, Abu Itrah, Al Kass or El Gondoul then then anything on the American market. All of those brands are mass produced by big firms rather then made in some guy's garrage so it's not as if it's harder to find or buy then any other wholesale brand.

Hajo's post should be inspiration for someone to go and buy a mass quantity of Indian, Arab, and Iranian tobacco and sell it in the states. hahaha i can always dream.

I wish that as well. Still, as much as I hate admit it I'd say that part of the reason so much crappy moassel is on the market is because companies are trying to imitate SB figuring that if the typical American smoker is willing to shell out 20 bucks for a tin of something that tastes like cheap candy then that is way to do business. What I am hoping for is that a significant chunk of the market will one day come to enjoy stuff that doesn't taste like something you can eat or drink but rather has all the rich textures and tastes that got people interested in tobacco in the first place.
