Default Difficult Heat Management

Ok so ive been killing myself trying different set-up methods and packing techniques but no matter what i do heat management is impossible. It gets way too harsh with 2 coals...and with 1 i get nothing, no smoke no flavor.

MY SETUP:

Hookah: I have a 40" exotica. Insured its air tight by placing my hand over stem/bowl. Now my "regular" set-up is what you would see anywhere else.
Vase: Leave the stem submerged about half an inch to one inch in cold water.

Tobacco : Al-Fakher Golden Grape

Bowl: Phunnel+mod. Pack it light and fluffy. (Tried with Reg. Egyptian; same results) 2 pieces of aluminum with 2 rings of holes. I use 2 QL 3King coals. (I tried using natural coals with same effect.)

Hose: Nammor + KM Hose. Tried both still no luck...

I have also tried 1 coal with a wind cover but didnt help much.

I always clean my hookah after every use.

The best results i have gotten so far, was by adding more water. I submerged the stem about 4 inches. But still not consistent enough.

So if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated!

-Thanks, Kman187

either packing the bowl too high so the foil is contacting the shisha....when u peel off the foil is it all blackened?

or....sometimes with the phunnel mod it gets superheated and burns the surrounding shisha....but u said same results with standard egyptian...so probably not

Try one piece of tin foil and poke your holes everywhere like you would on a standard egyptian bowl. Try using 2 quicklights, one on each side of the bowl, hanging off the edge. If this doesn't work then its your coals that are the problem. You need to pick up some natural coals...or you are packing the bowl incorrectly, but from what you have said it seems like your doing everything right.

Apparently, Af now needs a double warp of foil.

I had same problem with AF a well with a phunnel/vortex, my solution was to use a regular clay bowl, and thriple normal foil, with 2 coconara's on them

I smoked AF Peach last night out of my medium phunnel bowl. Sprinkled the tobacco in and packed it almost to the rim but not quite. Then used one layer of heavy duty foil and poked 3 complete circles of holes towards the outside of the bowl. Then I used three ******* hookah natural coals hanging off the sides of the bowl. It smoked amazingly well, very flavorful and very thick clouds.

I think so too, I had some al-waha grape last night and it was not harsh at all. Heat management was much better. Turns out it was the shisha. I had been smoking the same tobacco for over a month now, and i was starting to get discouraged. Luckily i ran out of that shisha.

AF golden grape got harsh for me too, it seems to pull and hold the heat.

if one coal is not enough and 2 is to much try splitting the 1 in half or use 3 1/2s spread around the bowl.

make sure to leave space under the foil. how many holes do you have (i know you said 2 rings). i usually use 37 holes on a normal bowl and usually 36 on a phunnel (outer ring of 16, then 12, 8 and 1, and just skip the 1 hole on the phunnel and push the rings the the out side more)
