Default KM how is it spelled?

I was in Iraq for a year and got to visit Turkey and Kuwait and conversed with many people of varying Arab countries. One thing that seemed to happen was many spellings of the same word. Sometimes spelling would vary with dialect of certain region. Such as Khalil Maamoun. Ive seen so various spellings of this same name. Is it along the same lines does anyone know?

I think photolinger could tell you more, but when its transposed, there is no exact spelling of the words. something along those lines, im not sure, but this could be why some companies names vary so much....or the knock off shisha brands just want us to think that...idk

on my base its spelt Khalil Mamoon, and on the ash trey its spelt Khalil Mamon.
i have no clue how its really spelt. ive also seen it spelt Khalil Maamoon printed on there older hoses.

im going to guess all the parts are made in different countries, because if they were made in the same place their name would be spelt the same. or...... distributers are cheating us by giving us knock-off parts to go along with our stems.

This topic came up a while back. It's just the translation into english. There is no exact one so all of these spellings are generally accepted.

In arabic, it has one spelling which is خليل مامون

The first word:
The first letter (خ) = kh .. it is pornounced as it is coming from down your throat
The 2nd letter (ل) = L .. exactly the same
The 3rd letter (ي) = Y or I
The 4th letter (ل) = L

The second word
The 1st letter (م) = M
The 2nd letter (أ) = A
The 3rd letter (م) = M
The 4th letter (و) = O
The 5th letter (ن) = N

I hope this helps

So I'm guessing, since Nakhla has that "kh" sound in it, it's supposed to come from the throat as well?

Funny you bring this up now because we just finished writing a disclaimer for Khalil Mamoon hookahs since there has been so many misconceptions and confusions. Here it goes. Sorry if it's kinda wordy but it is very detailed.

Dear potential Khalil Mamoon hookah owner,

The popularity of mass produced Chinese made hookahs in the past few years has tainted our perception of traditional hookah craftsmanship made with the blood sweat and tears of hookah artisans who have dedicated their lives to their craft. It is easy to forget what goes into the making of an authentic hookah when computer generated designs CNC cutting and cookie cutter molds have become the standard for quality in recent hookah history.

Before making your purchase on one of these beautiful hand crafted Egyptian hookahs from the one of the most renowned hookah makers in the world, we would like to point out a few things in order to set your expectations and educate you on what an authentic Khalil Mamoon hookah consists of.

Exterior Finish of Stem

Khalil Mamoon stems are some of the most beautiful, most durable, most authentic hookah stems being made in Egypt to date. The master artisans who make them pay close attention all the details in order to provide the consumer with a good product that smokes great, is easy to maintain and lasts a lifetime. These hookahs are not machine made. They are hand-made by professionals who bend, shape, hand tap, design the metal work out of flat sheets of steel using hand tools just like the way a traditional shoemaker makes shoes.

As a result, a perfectly finished stem is non-existent. In other words, it is normal to see weld marks, minor scuffs and scratched on the stem or other marks which may occur from bending the metal such as on the top of the hose port.

If you are looking for a hookah with a perfect machine crafted finish, the Khalil Mamoon hookahs are not for you. We recommend a Chinese made one from our Modern collection or a MYA hookah, which is of high quality but also made in China.

Interior Finish of Stem

Since these hookahs are made in Egypt where dust and sand surrounds the factories, it is normal for the interior of the stem to accumulate some dirt in the manufacturing process. We advise rinsing the interior of your hookah before use and giving it a few scrubs with the provided brush in order to get rid of any grime, dust or sand which may have settled on the interior of the stem.

Glass Vases

Glass vases found on the Khalil Mamoon hookahs are hand-painted therefore designs will always vary from one vase to another. It is also normal to find small inconsistencies in the applied design since they are not applied through silkscreen or heat transfer methods. All glass is painted by hand with a brush. Like a true piece of art, no two vases will be identical in design. It is also a misconception that Khalil Mamoon makes the glass vases themselves. That is not true! Khalil Mamoon specializes in the metal work only. The glass is made by one of the handful of glass manufacturers in Egypt for Khalil Mamoon. Sometimes you will find a Khalil Mamoon stamp on the glass but that does not necessarily mean that the glass without the stamp is of inferior quality. There is no such thing as real or fake Khalil Mamoon glass. There are simply different qualities of glass.

Clay Bowls

The clay bowls provided with the Khalil Mamoon hookahs are of a large size, serve their function extremely well and have stood the test of time since they have been made the same way for at least over 50 years. Due to the density of the clay they allow for good heat transfer, which is perfect for heating your shisha. They are hand molded and shaped just like a traditional clay vase would be. Though these bowls are some of the best looking bowls coming out of Egypt, you will sometimes find small imperfections in them due to their hand-made nature. Note that these bowls will not look like the modern bowls, which are being manufactured in China nowadays.

Hoses

Khalil Mamoon hose are some of the best hoses around. They provide great pull and are aesthetically beautiful. Traditional Khalil Mamoon hoses are made of cowhide and are hand woven and glued. Due to the nature of the leather, slight changes in color may be apparent. You may also notice some excess glue where different parts of the hose are glued together. This is absolutely normal and does not affect the smoke in any way.

Fitting

Our Khalil Mamoon hookahs do not come fitted. We fit them ourselves since the fitting is never consistent straight from the factory. Our staff works hard to ensure a proper fit for your Khalil Mamoon hookah. Since the glass is made by hand, it is almost impossible to have a consistent fit from one glass to another. It is our job to fit your hookah with the correct grommet for that glass however we cannot guarantee that if you switch the glass or purchase a separate glass that it will have the same fit. A new grommet may be required if the glass is changed.

Authenticity

You know a Khalil Mamoon hookah is authentic as soon as you pick it up. However it is not as easy when making a purchase online. There are however a few things to look for when making your purchase. Khalil Mamoon almost always stamps their name on the top of the stem (where the tray sits) and on the tray. There are certain styles, which also have the Khalil Mamoon stamp on the hose port (usually found on the full cast hookahs such as the Kafae models). The hose also has a Khalil Mamoon label attached to it and in some cases the Khalil Mamoon name is also printed on the hose itself either on the handle or the main part of the hose.

Spelling of the Name
A common misconception is that the spelling of the English translation of Khalil Mamoon is a way to tell its authenticity. That is not true, since there have been various translations of the name some of which are Khalil Mamoon, Khalil Mamoun and Khalil Mamon. There is a simple explanation for that; lost in translation.

In Conclusion

We know that buying a Khalil Mamoon hookah on the web can be daunting because of the many rumors and misconceptions. We can however assure you that as a reputable hookah retailer who has been in business since 2001, all the Khalil Mamoon items we sell on TheHookah.com are 100% authentic. We have made visits to the Khalil Mamoon factory and store in Egypt and met with the Mamoon family personally in order to assure that. We have also made some special requests such as the multiple hose Khalil Mamoons, which many people thought were non-existent.

We are hookah enthusiasts just as much if not more than we are business people. We truly appreciate the art of hookah making and immediately spot honest craftsmanship when we see it. We hope that you will appreciate the craft of traditional hookah making as much as we do. If you decide to make your Khalil Mamoon purchase through us or another retailer, we know that you will be a proud owner for years to come since these hookah hold their value more than any other make on the market. Some models may even gain value depending on the rarity of the piece.

Happy smoking from TheHookah.com Team

There is no definite way in Arabic to transliterate a word to English, hence there are so many transliterations.

Im gonna add my little bit of input on top of that.
In the Khalil part, there is actualy a short vowel, its not written but implied, most short vowels arent usually written in common arabic. The Short vowel on the Kh is an "a"
So you would actually get Kha-lil which is pretty much right....
And please note, its not a K, its a glottal noise...think flem...

As for the A in the second part, there is a glottal stop, you say the "a" sound for a second and stop it with your throat, thats the only way I could explain it without you seeing me do it.

As for the O in the second part, I would just like to note that this O is more of a OO sound.

If I were to consistently write it, I'd write it as Khalil Ma'moon.
I would throw that apostrophe in for the glottal stop.

However, since the company doesnt try for consistency, I think as long as what you type looks like it sounds, you are fine. If anyone tells you are spelling it wrong, slap them with the hose.

(yes I'm gonna say it)
But why does it matter, Syrian brass is still better .
