Default Tobacco laws blow

About a month ago I made my own earl gray tea flavoured shisha that blows the Nahkla's out of the water and is very high rated amoung friends. Though it seems no matter what I do, I can't find a way to sell it or market it at all without going through absurd tobacco taxes and such. I've also had it get acquisitioned by the post office when I tried to mail it to someone. Tobacco laws blow.

That sucks that you gotta go through all that just to get your product out there. Sounds like it would be well worth it tho.

Well to be honest it was going from the US to Canada, so I suppose a blank bag of leafy looking stuff would be a bit conspicuous but we'll see.

My next batch is gonna be a Stevia and ginger flavoured shisha, i hope it comes out well

Man I feel your pain. The Canadian customs are the worst when it comes to tobacco. I should know.

Importing tobacco from the US to Canada is a pain and it often results in paying insane taxes for just a few grams.

The tobacco industry does need some degree of regulation since you need to prevent under-aged consumption and obviously the government wants excise taxes paid but yeah, it has gotten to be over the top restrictive. The truth is that the government and very sizable and well funded segment of the population would love to ban tobacco and if they can't do that then they would be content with making it an nonviable business by taxing and regulating the industry out of existence.

Since almost no one bothers to confront the junk science and poorly thought out tax policies that drive public policies it seems pretty certain that tobacco will soon become a luxury item far to rare and expensive for any of us to afford.

simple solution assuming you can easily show people where to get the tobacco base for them to buy them selves, just sell the flavor/juice mix and let the customer mix it them selves. im not sure how well that would work for you but it is a legal work around

I live in Oregon and all of the lounges are being shutdown because of a new law that says that you can't smoke within 10 feet of a business. hookah lounges have to be freestanding now and I'd assume that that's too expensive for most lounges.

there should be an exception for business that are smoking lounges of the like. and if there isnt you just make it a "club", let any one join for the price of one hookah, and they get a free hookah when they join, then they have to pay the same price to come back and smoke as a member of the club. some places have done it, its perfectly legal as a loop hole.

honestly though the whole "no smoking by a business because people coming in or out may be bothered and the employes may be bothered" its a freaking hookah bar, if you dont want smoke you wont go in, no server is going to feel they dont want to be around the smoke

You are missing the point of the tobacco prohibitionist movement in that common sense has nothing to do with it. The point is that a politically powerful lobby believes that the government should ban things they don't approve of and junk science is facade used to appeal to the lemmings. It all comes down to having more power over the lives of others. l

From what I understand they are still allowed, but they cannot be attached to other businesses.

trade and sale are 2 different games. trades are probably fine but sale, uncle sam will want tax on that, but if the original person paid retail tax on it you may be able to get away with it but idk

You payed tax on the tobacco you used to make it, right? I see tobacco for sale in the trade section all of the time. Canada has crazy high tobacco duties. I think that was the main problem http://www.nsra-adnf.ca/cms/index.cfm?group_id=1199

Smuggled tobacco from Quebec is the reason for the high taxes in the entire country? Gee, I sure hope that's not the case.

On a side note, a large percentage of the smuggled tobacco in Quebec originates from Kanesatake and the surroundings, which is about 10 minutes from where I live.

Maybe sell something little and charge the price that you would want for the shisha, then throw in the shisha as a "Sepcial gift." Theres probably laws against this, but if not it would be a loop hole.

you know its not hard to get a business license, and if you had that you could buy tobacco at whole sale and then just pay the tax to the govt when you sell it. maybe more work for what you have now but could be an excuse to start a new brand of tobacco (i just want an excuse to try new things)

A vendor did that for me once, marking the package as a gift and lowering the value of the order... it did nothing because the customs still intercepted and opened the box. $60 CAD in taxes for 200g of shisha, it's a wonderful time to be a Canadian
