Default wood or metal

There is an indian shop close to the place i work that have these 3 hookahs on display that iv never seen before. In South Africa we mainly get the Chinese el cheapo hookahs with a normal stem made from some sort of metal. But this shops hookahs were made totally from wood. even the lower stem and everything is wood. the only thing that isnt wood is the tip where the bowl comes on and the metal thingie that catches the ash that falls off. Are these hookahs any good. I would imagine that the wood stem would really soak up all the flavours that pass threw it and even add to the taste. They look awesum though. The price is quite expensive but id be the only one in town with one of them. Some advice please guys.

I don't think having wood sitting in water is that great of an idea.

The tube that runs down the middle is most likely metal, the wood being the decoration.

it may be pretty cool to own one, if it had a male-fitting bowl stem.

I've seen pipes that are mainly used for smoking unfavoured and traditional type of moassel being all wooden except the bowl and ashtray (if they had one because most of them did not have an ashtray at all).
I believe its the same reason that cigar humidor use cetrain types of wood (such as spanish cedar wood) as they give a unique taste and smell to the smoke.

Wood looks great on a narghile but it's not practical since all of it needs to be washed regularly. I know that rigs with wooden downstems are threaded so they can be thrown out after a few uses. Typically you buy a 5 or 10 pack of spare down stems when you get the rig. If that isn't an option I wouldn't buy anything with wood. Still, wood does look great.

Hey guys, I went downtown to San Jose today to a little Middle eastern shop that has some hookahs. They had two that had wooden shafts with romovable/replaceable wooden downstems. They also had th largest Al Fakher vase I have ever seen on a hookah, if I had to size it to something, I would say it was almost as big if ot the same size as a galon of milk. I have pics of all of this but I am having trouble uploading them. I have them saved in my pictures on my computer but everytime I go to upload them it says fatal error. I think they may be to big but i am unsure how to properly size them. Anyway, if someone has some tips I would gladly put them up tonight. I read through the FAQ on pics and tried it that way to no avail.
