Default Er, um this is odd? KM paint peeling...

first the pics......

And

The white and Glitter isn't bothering my roommate as much as the Blue is falling off in large, large chunks.

This hookah came from thehookah.com. I've never had a bad experience with them till now. This is kinda upsetting. Also the other bowl he ordered was cracked.

He's not the sort to complain, but i can tell he's a bit upset. I'm going to PM thehookah later.

I'm just wondering if this is a common problem? I mean I've never seen this before!

It's not an official km vase bro, thats your problem. KM vases have the name wrapped in foil in English/Arabic around the top. If your big on vase design i'd try getting something from sahara maybe?

thehookah.com claims that Kms do not actually have certain bases, but they do select the bases that they use from a few different sources... i guess those ones are just shitty. Awesome looking base before it got all gross tho man ... thats a shame.

Does he wash it out with really hot water?
I noticed on one of my old Egyptian vases that the paint always came out when I cleaned with steaming water so I suggest washing with room temp water or just warm water.

i have heard the same thing from anyone that imports from egypt, glass is sourced and km pays glass company's to paint their logo/name on some glass or just buy any glass on the market. None of the bases you see are super great as far as decor lasting but it's still sold glass and will function. You could alway buy a bohemiam glass for $100+ but I suspect you may have the same problem over time, unfortunate but at least it doesn't affect the smoke

KM does NOT make vases. I thought this was well known. Khalil Maamoun manufactures their own stems, bowls, and hoses. The vases come from a variety of sources, only matched in variety by the quality of the vases.

Ya the paint seems to peel off of all my vases also. I ended up rubbing all the paint off my vases with a brillo pad and then put a piece of tape where the water line is and then spray painted a primer on it and had a buddy airbrush my own designs on it. Ill have to post some pics. This kid has major talent...he painted yoda smokin from a hose on my vase and wrote a msg in a cool script around the vase.

Yeah, you can protect the outside of the base by spraying a gloss coat over it, as for the inside, man.... I don't know.

Yea, my old syrian had a beautiful design on the base that i got from thehookah. After every wash, it started peeling off though, that vase ended up breaking and i went to sahara for a new one, never been happier

Large, because the diameter of of the top of it was exactly the same as my old one. And you know how syrians have shorter stems. It was originally a 28" syrian, now its much larger

Meh, modern was cool. That was until i found out about the history of hookah and how it came to be what it is today. Traditional designs are better because they help distinguish hookahs between other smoking devices. I mean, if you took a Meduse and let some 90 year old hookah guy in egypt it, then he would have no idea what the hell to do with it.

be careful w/ it, if your coating is sloppy it looks shitty and is hard to fix from there

it not that its surprising that pain comes off the vases it is surprising that it sticks on, glass does not take to having things stuck to it very easily and since the vases are not sanded before they are painted it leads to flaking. yes you can make it so it is pretty sturdy but it will not withstand anywhere near as much as the glass it self

IMHO glass should not be painted, it should be colored through using colored glass and developing pattern that way
