Default KM Hammer Tongs....

http://hookahcompany.com/premium_ham..._3853_prd1.htm

anyone else think that these will be...not so useful....?

I do not think the "hammer" will be nearly massive enough to do much in the cracking coals dept...but I could be wrong ^_^

i think that it would work, as long as you use the pointy end of the hammer, not the broad side. Its like those tiny hammers with a trigger on them to break out car windows, same concept except it doenst shoot out and break the coal

Those hammers work because of the type of glass....a lot of force on that small area will make a tiny crack which then just spreads massively....the same may be true for coals, but i think they absorb energy a bit better than glass.

ya im not sure if they will be that great, look ok, and the pointy side will probably crack a coal.

as to the breaking of a window in a car you are also breaking tempered glass usually so once you get any crack in it the glass shatters because of the way the stress is put into it

Well, the glass hammers usually have ceramic in them, which breaks glass like nothing. try gently tossing a spark plug at a windshield and see what happens.

These are cool tongs though, I ordered a pair

I have a pair of tongs like this, only it's completely flat, it's really only good for picking up exotica nats and moving coals.

It may be useful to those savages who still need to break their coals before lighting them...

Am i rhe only one that is skeptical about these being made by KM?

They would probably work just fine on say... exoticas and other finger type coals, but bulk naturals woudl laugh at them.

I just wanted cool tongs, I don't see how exoticas need to be cut, I just snap them in half and when they're ready to go on the hookah tap the burning coal abit till it splits in two, no sawing needed

its just that the ceramic is harder, you can break anything with something else as long as it is harder, same idea as scratching it.

The idea is that you use the hammer after the coals are hot. They are much easier to break at that point and sometimes natural coal can come in very large pieces. These pieces are hard to manage on a bowl but the smaller ones are hard to light on a stome sometimes. so this allows you to lite the whole coal and then break it into pieces you need.

i just think hitting a burning coal to break it indoors is a bad idea, out side with nothing that can catch fire maybe, but sure not inside (and im not the type of person that doesnt like to take any risks, just have a limit)

maybe the little hammer chunk is made of led so it's uber heavy. that way all you have to do is drop it on your coal and *BLAMO!!!* coal dust and coal pieces in assorted sizes!

and if you're hammering on a lit coal, *BLAMO!!!* well...that's pretty much it considering coal would go everywhere and your house would go up in flames. XD
