Default Destruction of the E-coal

So, I ordered 2 more e-coals from Mahir and decided to sacrifice the original one i got to see what makes it tick. there was no way to take it apart without breaking it. I started by tapping the ceramic bottom with a screwdriver. Soon enough it was all broken except for one piece shown here:

2 wires attached. so that exposed this thin metal disc. I started hacking away at that and it turns out to be a bunch of these discs stacked together:

Then I notice the piece of ceramic still attached to the unit has some sort of metal inside:

and here's a shot of the inside:

So, i'm still not sure how this thing works as i'm not too educated on this stuff. It seems that the heat is transferred into the thin metal sections in the ceramic but i'm not sure how the heat is generated in the first place. maybe something with those thin metal discs. anyway, enjoy

it's construction seems relatively simple, the discs being the heating elements and the ceramic outside acts like a heat shield. But that's pretty cool! Pixelz and I really want to invest in a couple of the E-coals.

see if there are any markings on anything about ohms...i can't really tell from the picture what anything really is...but something in there should be basically a big resistor and i wouldnt be surprised if those places were just to disperse the heat and are not the actual resistor .. idk its hard to say...all that shit looks pretty weird lol

dude there are no electronic components in there lol. its just 2 wires connected to the ceramic disc.

Seems like the ceramic disk is the resistor due to oxides in the ceramic. Similar to large ceramic resistors. the metal coated discs is the heatsinks that does the heat transference to the bottom of the coal. Looks like there was two ceramic heating elements and the metal disks looks like aluminum coated with a heat conducting paste for high heat transference.

Yes, a metal that has a current traveling through it will produce heat. How much the electricity is resisted depends on how much heat it produced

It's just a small ceramic hot plate with the resistance set to around where a shisha needs it to be. Not a bad concept and I will most likely end up spending the cash to try one out eventually. Or wait until the novelty wears off and I can pick one up in a trade lol.

oh wow that is so simple, all it takes is a metal plat with ceramic around it connected to a voltage source and something to insulator. My Grandma know a lot about ceramics maybe ill ask her is she can give me a hand in making one.
