Default "Too tight" base/stem grommet

Hey guys, I recently received an AF 30" solid hookah from John and am loving it. I have noticed however that the grommet creating the seal between the base and stem is ridiculously tight. I can get the stem 2/3 of the way into the base after wiggling, twisting, and shoving but am really nervous to use such force when putting my stem in and out of the base. Not wanting to waste money/time/potentially ruining the hookah, i wanted to ask you guys what I should do to remedy the situation. I know you can buy grommets online, but I do not know how a replacement grommet would be any better than the grommet I have...and how I would be able to tell on a website

Thanks for your help

Olive oil is a quick fix or you can sand down the grommet

I have the same problem with my KM. No matter how much I wiggle it or twist it I can't get it to go all the way down. What I've found makes it a little easier is getting the grommet a little wet before putting the stem into the base. I know this isn't that great of a solution, but hopefully it helps a little.

Try getting it wet first or I sanded mine down and Crisco'd it to make it slide in better. Personally I'd switch to silicone for a smoother fit.

i have a km from john too. just rinse the entire grommet off with water, put it on your stem, put stem into base! don't do what i did, i forced the stem all the way in to the vase and the grommet ripped. (out of context )

Does it matter if it goes all the way down? As long as it is tight it should be fine

The black rubber grommets are usually on the larger size of their size groups (if that makes any sense)

One temporary method to fix this is a lubricant, either a cooking oil or even a silicone lubricant works (system JO works perfectly and lasts a while...dont judge me)

A permanent solution would be to sand the grommet down liked mentioned, however this is a messy process, you will have little rubber bits everywhere, don't do it on carpet.

Lastly, you could try something getting another grommet, like a silicone grommet, however those are more prone to tearing, or acquire a clear rubber grommet, they tend to be thinner than the black grommets.

I use water to but the problem for me is, after it is in and I have my session, it is just as hard to take out and I have to man-handle it to take it out. lol

Broke my 32" MZ Horas blue vase the first time I pulled the stem out thanks to the grommet being so tight. SUper glue and duct tape hold my vase together to this day.

I sanded the grommet down a little and it worked a treat. I'd been doing some DIY stuff at home so I happened to have some sandpaper literally right next to me

I dip my finger in some vegetable oil and trace my finger around the grommet... works great.

Water is just perfect. Most grommets are too tight at first. I use water to put it in to a point its airtight. Doesnt need to go in all the way.
