Default japanese tabs

I just picked up a box of abu hitam japanese tabs but have never used them before. I'm concerned with the silver coating. Is there anything I need to know about these little gems? tnx.

The silver coating will burn off, just light them on the stove, or with a torch and then grab them in some tongs and blow on them. The silver coating will blow right off ... pretty much all Japanese Coals have that coating. You want to light them as you would other coals, make sure they are hot and slightly ashed over before using and blow off any silver you can after they are lit.

Cheers!

I have only experienced them once. 120 tabs wow what a great deal $2.00 wholesale or something Crazy like that. Well after getting so mad I flushed it (and it was still not lit) I said screw it I give up and bought a box of 3 kings coals. here it is over a year later and I bought a box today funny enough and guess what I cant bring my self to use them. lol I wanted to do a review on them but I will wait for the movie on this one. I will carry them on the site but don`t think even for 1 minute you will see them on my bowl..

I have never had a problem with the Japanese tabs. The Japaneses tabs are my favorite. They burn at just the right temperature, not too hot. They don't make your smoke taste bad. Not only that, but they burn for an hour plus!!!

I never use the quick lighting coals. They burn out quick and make your smoke taste bad.

When buying the Japanese tabs be sure to order them online. The local smoke shops tend to only sell them by the brick and charge waaay too much for them. I was desperate once and bought a box at one of the local smoke shop and they charged me $35. You can buy them for as low as $4 a box online before shipping. But the normal price is around $10.

Do yourself a favor and order online.

I've only tried one brand of jap. tabs, abu hitam, but have heard they are the best you can get and I'm inclined to agree that they are the best coal I've ever used. clean taste long, even burn, and they're only costing me $10 a box 5 blocks from where I work. These and AF lemonwoods are pretty much all I use.
