Default How do you know your KM is real?

This sort of thing scared me a lil ... distributer in India:
http://www.bholebabaindia.com/KhalilMamoonargileh.html

In particular:
"The stem is made from highest quality metal preferably copper alloy and designed and styled as Khalil Mamoon Hookah."

i.e. FAKE

Which makes me wonder, is there a sure way of knowing you have an authentic KM?

Not all brass KMs are solid. Some of the hollow stemmed KMs like the World Trophy are indeed nickel plated brass.

I don't think you can judge those pics because they are of real KMs. Many of them are the same pics that thehookah.com uses except minus the hose. The only real give away from what I can quickly see is the "styled as Khalil Mamoon" statement. The chrome plated comment is questionable but that may simply be a mistake as one can think they're chrome plated just because they're bright and shiny. I don't know why at some point they say copper alloys and brass as brass is really the only type of copper alloy I've heard of off the top of my head that is commonly used in hookahs.

To answer the question though, I know mine is real because John said it is.

That is a legit KM hookah. Not all KMs are heavy...some are hollow steel. If the base wasn't fitted properly it will wobble, but that is a vendor problem, not a manufacturer problem. KM trays are not fixed, so they do slide if you are shaking them around...but....most people smoke while stationary so this is not an issue. A hookah doesn't need to be able to beat a burglar to death; it's purpose is to smoke, nothing else.

you guys realize the KM steel hookahs are light as all hell right?

not all KMs are sturdy and heavy, unless you have a brass stem, a trimetal of sorts, or maybe the hafa...

the others tend to be hollow on the inside making them light, dont use weight to tell the difference.

and if its a good copy its a good copy, if its a bad one and smokes well, then who cares?

edit: if you do, that shows how much you care about the KM name.

That site seems to be selling legit rigs while claiming that they are Indian made by their company thus trying to take credit for the craftsmanship. If you go through all the pages they claim to be selling KM style hookahs, AF hookahs and Mya hookahs (with the brand mark) which apparently are all produced in Egypt by one company.

I would avoid any site that give you any less than the complete truth. It just ups the chances of them sending you a true, low quality knock off and claiming it's just different because it's handmade and all of them vary slightly.

Regarding those saying that the weight is a good indicator of authenticity... Wrong.

I have a KM double trimetal and the stem weighs very little because, as with most KMs, the stem is hollow. It's solid and well built but it's still hollow and light.

The best way to check if it's a real KM is checking for the signature on the ledge that the coal tray sits on.

Yet not as heavy or sturdy or well built as an AF Syrian.

If you want solid and heavy go for Syrian brass!

My nour may even outweigh my KM and it's only a 23" model vs a 34" KM double trimetal.

I'm going to find the cheapest hollow hookah I can and fill the pieces with lead pellets. The entire KM and Syrian world shall bow down before it's heavyweight glory! Muahahahaha!!!

i agree, my stainless KM's are pretty light, even the 41 inch pear, you would think because of the height it would be heavy. My 26 inch af is heavier as long as my two tri metals which are half the height.
