Each Brand does it differently

99.9% will use:

Honey

Molasses

Vegetable Glycerin

combination of them as a Binding Agent for flavoring.
Flavorings are mostly natural some are artificial but they vary widely!

Romman is Honey & Glycerin
Tangiers is Molasses
Fumari differs from flavor to flavor

It breaks down to "Tobacco, Binding Agent, Flavoring" that's it.

Plus the fact that people smoke ~1-2 packs a day (5 mins a cig)

And hookah = ~45 mins a day (1 session) and compare ingredients..

i do agree with you, but i think the person that wrote down some of those substances was right out to lunch. I think that a company would not put in 20+ diffrent flavourings into 1 particular type of tobacco.

This is an excellent point, but please keep in mind that most cigs will only contain 200+ ingrediants that when ignited breakdown into more than I can count chemicals in which your body absorbs. Also it comes down to cut, age, and environment of the tobacco for some of those chemicals to be present or form. And type, brand, and flavor come into the picture too. So just to clear things up this list is not a list of every chemical in every cig. its a list of known chemicals in the spectrum of cig. tobacco.

Granted shisha has less ingrediants, and extremely less chemical exhaustions!

Not only does the chemical information prove shisha to be the lesser evil and in comparison healthier than cigs. BUT! there is also the simple science of physics to consider.

When smoking a cig. you pull air through burning tobacco embers which heats the embers even more...all the while over-heating the air as well. This is pulled through the rest of the cig. until it reaches your throat and lungs. Granted the temperature of the air/smoke cools rapidly but the amount of distance it goes across before hitting your bodily tissue is too small to make a difference. Just based on temperature alone properly smoking a hookah/shisha causes less harm than smoking a cig which instantly destroys our avioli in our lungs and our throat tissues on contact.

Tar is prduced when tobacco is burned at temperatures of over 500*F. Most hookah bowls (again properly used) will not spike past 450*F even when someone is pulling air through the coals and therefor heating them moreso.

Another overlooked factor of smoking Hookah is that the smoke is cooled down. Meaning it doesnt destroy your avioli and throat tissues on contact like say cigarettes. Granted this causes a more dense smoke that does condense faster inside your lungs leaving more nicotine than a general cigarette.

Hookah tobacco or Shisha mainly consists of nothing more than tobacco, veggie glycerin, and flavoring extract. all but the tobacco burn off safely causing no chemical exhaustion. Compared to most cigarettes and other tobacco this means no 400+ chemicals and of those this includes arsnic, which is not found in shisha.

last but not least: nicotine. Yes hookah tobacco and smoking hookah will generally deliver more nicotine to your body than say a cig. but you have to look at it in context. 1 hour long hookah session might have the same nicotine content of 5+ cigs. but then a cig. smoker will mainly chain more than 5 cigs. a day. and those 5 cigs not only are comparitive to the nicotine content but take into account the other aspects I have listed above and you will see how hookah smoking may still be a drug usuage and have negative effects on the body...but there are worst things ppl can do for their kicks/fix.

and this is definitley in shisha smoke:
nicotine
tar
carbon monoxide
acetaldehyde
formaldehyde
acrolein
lead
naphthalene
pyrene
phenanthrene
benzopyrene

and also other stuff if you use quick light coal (more chemical)...

You cant say "shisha is more healthier than a cigarrete".
Both things are unhealthy!

tar will build up in your lungs whatever you're smoking... shisha is misleading saying it contains 0.0% tar which is technically true. It contains no tar, however tar will be deposited in your lungs when you smoke it.

tar is produced when the tobacco is burning if your burning your tobacco to smoke hookah then you dont know what you are doing.
Properly heating the tobacco or baking it does not produce tar and probably most if not all of the other chemicals you listed from your "reference".
Most of the studies we have seen that are against hookah smoking are incorrect in the way the tobacco is heated, and are biased in the first place because they are looking to show the tobacco as bad.

tar is produced when the tobacco is burning if your burning your tobacco to smoke hookah then you dont know what you are doing.
Properly heating the tobacco or baking it does not produce tar and probably most if not all of the other chemicals you listed from your "reference".
Most of the studies we have seen that are against hookah smoking are incorrect in the way the tobacco is heated, and are biased in the first place because they are looking to show the tobacco as bad.

someone dig up that university of washington or maybe it was columbia study, that seemed to be the one with the least amount of bias.

I mean the studies make valid points, but give up and assume a reasoning behind them. Biggest point being is that hookah produces more smoke, not many studies go into what is contained in this smoke if they even decide to set the hookah up properly.

Hookah is bad for you, it is, I can tell you though I feel worse off one cigarette than I do after 3 hours of hookah...so even though that is qualitative and not scientific in the least, I can tell you that if it bothers me less, then it might possibly be better for me

Tar is created when any organic material is burned. Technically you could say that cigarettes don't have any tar, until you burn them. Glycerin and molasses are the main producers of smoke in shisha tobacco, and the long term effects of smoking these ingredients has not been investigated as much as the effects of shisha tobacco. Both are still harmful but speaking from what I've observed, the negative effects of smoking hookah are significantly less than what I notice after smoking a cigarette.
Another thing to take into account is that smoking with a hookah cools the smoke so your throat and lungs do not have the added harm of hot smoke on the trachea and lungs(aveoli most notably).

I think you might be talking about nicotine and this can range from 0.05% to 0.5% nicotine. Now the effects of nicotine can be debated even more. I notice the nicotine significantly more with shisha tobacco rather than cigarettes. I do believe it is still addicting, but less habit forming. When I hookah I have to set it up and clean it, but with a cigarette all i have to do is reach for another in the pack. Hajo also posted a link about a book that debates the misconceptions of nicotine, but its rather expensive for a bit of light reading.

Nicotine is addictive. With that said, most people who do not smoke besides hookah are not taking in the volume of nicotine the average cigarette smoker does and do not smoke as frequently. It's also important to note that nicotine is not the carcinogen. Nicotine isn't what causes smokers to get lung cancer. What makes cigarettes worse for your health than hookah smoke would be the additives they use and the temperature the tobacco burns at and it being so close to your mouth and taken into the lungs. Shisha does not bake at the same temperature a cigarette burns at and that smoke cools considerably by the time it reaches your mouth.

I know that when I smoke my hookah I don't feel I am taking as much smoke into my lungs as with a cigarette. Yes, some smoke obviously enters the lungs, but most of it is immediately exhaled from my mouth, whereas almost all of the smoke from my cigs is inhaled into my lungs and then exhaled.

Of course, as an adult I realize any smoking is bad for my health. It is a risk I accepted the day I took my first drag off of a cigarette. But it's important to realize there are other vices that are bad for your health as well. Heavy alcohol consumption, overeating that leads to obesity, processed foods, breathing in chemicals during manicures and hair dyeing, caffeine, etc. Aside from smoking I try to live as healthy a lifestyle as possible. I eat mostly organic foods, don't drink sodas, no alcoholic beverages, I exercise five days a week, get enough sleep and take organic vitamins.

All I know is since I quit cigarettes and took up smoking Moassel in the evening the wife says I have quit snoring. she's happy, I'm happy.

No study will be unbiased. If it is made by a human it will be biased in one direction or the other. We can only hope that the nannies will get bored and move on to something else.
