how do particles get in the hose if the smoke is filtered by the water? is there another filter u could add to avoid the buildup?

buildup is natural because the smoke does have particles in it and with every inhale some may get trapped in there or if you dont blow the smoke out of the hose. there are filters for sale from Hookah-Shisha. there may be other vendors but none i can think of off the top of my head but you can use that and inhale very quickly and dislodge anything in it. you can also get your hose and whack it (not super hard but a few times where there is a little force behind it but not enough to bend the coil inside) on the floor to loosen anything then you can blow out or inhale. if you want another thing than filters you can also use cheesecloth to do basically the same job of catching the particless.

yeah just blow through your hose a few times after you finish smoking, there will be practically none in there the next time you use it

I am going to +1 on this one, I haven't cleaned a hose in months! I just blow out the hose after each use. I stick to the MYA hoses and also a plastic Fisher Price looking hose from Hookah-Shisha. That is my goto hose by the way.

I also have hoses for specific flavors. For instance, I have a red hose that I use for berry flavors, such as strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, etc ... I blow those out too, if there is any taste, it all taste the same when you stick to the same flavors.

I have not had particles since I stopped washing my hoses ... knock on wood!

I just use a nammor hose, and blow stuff out after every use. Then once in a while I will take it into the shower and give it a nice cleaning to try to get all the rest of the particles out (although make sure you hose it washable).

I have tried the filtering hose tips that are supposed to catch the particles, and to be honest they don't work at all. The cheeses cloth idea is a great suggestion, but not the best. I suggest that you clean your hose. I simply siphon scolding hot water through mine and it does the trick quite effectively. You can see all of the hose build-up turn the water all brown and nasty. I really don't like smoking through a hose that has all of that nasty stuff in it. Not to mention that smoking out of a dirty hose makes the smoke taste like the last few flavors you smoked. You will have a better overall experience if you clean your hose after every other smoke session. Or at least more often. I hope my advice was helpful. Keep smokin'

only problem with putting water in it is if you do not have a washable hose the metal coil inside will rust. what you can do also is throw rubbing alcohol through it and then then dry it with an air compressor.

+1 on that!

also greenboarder89, make sure that you're not possibly inhaling rust... I had this happen to me recently, and as you can problaby guess, it was not pleasant at all. A lot of times, what may feel or seem as "hookah particles" may in fact be rust from the inner coils of the hose rusting and breaking away when you take a hit... A good way to test for this is: Get a cup of water and point one end of the hose into it and blow as hard as you can. The particles will shoot into the water revealing what they are (the rust pieces will sink to the bottom). If you take some out with your finger and it smeers into a brownish rust like color, then you know its rust...You can also smell it. I've noticed that rust has a certain smell to it...

If I was getting rust in my mouth on a regular basis. I would buy a new hose right away, in order to prevent it in the future.

Unless you enjoy the idea of your lungs and throat receiving rust, then yeah, I'd say you need a new hose... If you don't have money for a hookah hose right away, an alternative can be to go to your local hardware store ie. Home Depot, Lowe's etc. and buy x amount of clear vinly tubing (non toxic, used for food and water). It's only $4.00 This works just as good, if not better, than most hookah hoses on the market.

It doesn't affect the flavor in a negative way. All you get is pure flavor and smoke. And it's also good that you can wash it out with no problems since it's vinyl tubing (duh)...but yeah, that's a quick fix for ya. I've used this in the past and actually I'm using it now for the time being since I won't have money till after the holidays to buy hookah crap (read: Nammor Hose)... I'm in the same position you are, my Mya hose just rusted on me last week...Happy Smoking!

knock on wood, I haven't washed a hose in a while and no problems! Just blow the smoke out and stick to hoses for certain types of flavors. Like a green hose for mint, a red hose for berries, a brown hose for coffee type flavors, etc ... Works for me!

In my vid on http://www.youtube.com/hookahpro you can see I just "blow" the hose out, and that is ALL I do currently to clean my hoses!
