Smile Hookah Coals

I heard that it is okay to use bbq coals as hookah coals aslong as they have not starter fluid in them and are natural.
Can anyone tell me a brand of bbq coals that would work for the hookah.

Quoted for truth.

If you want a quality hookah session use quality hookah products.

to be fair, all coals give off CO. honestly, just search the forum for bulk charcoal someone wrote up something about this if you really are interested.

but 13bucks for a box of CH or Coco's is a good deal, and the ash wont be like that from a charcoal from a grill charcoal...

im sure some bbq briquettes woul be ok, but why risk it when cocononut coals are much better?? some of the bbq stuff has chemicals added to it etc to make it light faster etc and is not designed with hookah use in mind

Yeah I have said it before .. just stick to something that is labeled for hookah smoking. Why risk it??

I like the Coconaras and Exoticas They burn evenly and ash nicely.

BBQ charcoal is a bad idea all around.

my suggestion is that you go to your local shop and pick up a roll of three kings quicklights. keep those for emergencies. aside from that i suggest using CH coals as your go-to coal.

Well, I DO have experience with this. I'd seriously suggest not using BBQ charcoals. They give off a nasty taste, burn VERY fast, they give off heinous amounts of ash, and they ALWAYS burn your shisha, rather than cooking it. If you want cheap, go get cheap hookah coals. It's seriously a HUGE step above those ungodly things.

This is true, but the problem is that they're much bigger than what is needed for hookah so it tends to burn the tobacco. If you get the cut coconut coals it saves a lot of pain.

The only experience I've had with this was I once pulled a small coal out of a campfire and used that for hookah - it actually worked great! There was no real taste (shisha was some SB melon) and it burned at a good temperature. Of course, it was hard to get and not a good shape, but worked fine on an egyptian bowl

Its still probably a bad idea in general, but if your in a pinch I'd say burn down some wood, dont use BBQ coals

I ordered a box of these, the afire coals. I'm going to give them a go and see if they work. I have a CO monitor, with a digital display that shows ppm of CO. Right now, I'm smoking a bowl with 3 Starlight natural coals and the monitor is reading 49 ppm about 1 foot from the hookah. I hope to have the afire coals sometime this week and I'm thinking I'll do a little video of the experiment.
