Default Headaches and hookah

How do you guys get rid a headache after hookah? And how do you prevent from getting a huge headache after smoking hookah? All advice would be useful, thanks.

Pretty much the only reason you would get a headache is your coals arent fully lit when you are taking hits. You need to be sure they are fully covered all over with ash before you place them on your bowl. Drink plenty of water and take something for the headache.

I guarantee if you make sure your coals are completely lit with no black at all showing you will notice the headaches will not happen again.

Eat a good meal before smoking.
Drink plenty of fluids while smoking.
Make sure your QL Coals are fully lit.

That's about all I can think of right now....

Along with letting the coals ash over, don't chain smoke the thing. I had a headache first with underlit coals, then when I got the concept. If you take too many puffs you ending getting a pretty bad headache as well.

+1 on all the things bieng said. To add one, if you are new to hookah smoking, start with a pre-washed tobacco. This way you will not have to worry about the "buzz" or over smoking and making your self sick.

Yeah, try and use unwashed brands. I use mostly unwashed brands since my friends don't smoke a whole lot and I don't want anyone to not enjoy themselves while smoking.

yeah like they all said brands like Nahkla and Al Fakher and Tanganiers all are unwashed and have high nicotine levels (0.5), Brands like starbuzz, romma, and fantaisha are all considered washed tobaccos and have only ( 0.05). I used to have the very same problem as you. YOU"L build a tolerance.

Make sure your coals are fully ashed over, no black parts should be showing. If you are using disc shaped coals put them on their side and they seem to ash over quicker that way.

oh and Al Fakher is a washed brand by the way.

carbon monoxide poisoning also starts with a headache. you can get those if you smoke indoors. even if your coals are fully lit they still produce carbon monoxide (probably the most harmful part of smoking a hookah).

depending on coal, the amount of CO released varies. there can also be accelerants in the coal like sulphur (which can also give headaches and worse).

you need good ventilation to reduce the amount of CO in a room. the amounts released are usually less than the amount needed to set off a smoke detector but its definitely being released.

this is the most likely cause. the black parts of the coal release the most CO (and other accelerants). get a CO meter and see whats being released. its definitely the cause of my headaches. just smoking too much, even with really good charcoal that releases very little CO, it adds up (indoors). however using QLs even outdoors, the accelerants and CO give me headaches pretty quick.

If you can try using natural coals, I tried them for the first today and noticed a world of difference.

However, be careful with the CO the headaches are horrendous I have had plenty of those before.

I usually get them when my body has told me, "ENOUGH ALREADY!"

Purge a bit more regularly though, that should fend them off a bit more.

My guess is either underlit coals or hitting it to many times back to back during you session (which is making you inhale more CO). I always let quicklights sit 2-3 minutes after they have fully turned orange/red to make sure all the added chemicals have burned off.

On a side note: AF is only 0.05% at least the 10+ flavors I've had.

make sure your coals are lit and that you have eaten and have had somthing to drink and you should be fine...also if you don't like the headaches maybe stay away from unwashed brands like Nakhla and Tangiers....the only time i got a headache was after smoking about 10 bowls of various unwashed flavors over a span of 6 hours....on really an empty stomach.
