Default Tangiers Trouble

I just got my first batch of Tangiers through a trade. It's f-line orange soda. I think it's properly acclimated - I left it sitting open overnight and it smells like orange, not soy. I'm using a standard ceramic bowl and 2 layers of normal foil with 2 coconara coals. It's tasty but I'm not getting clouds at all, and I also have a throat tickle when smoking it. Do you think this is a bowl packing issue or should I let it acclimate more?

It's hard to get the hang of not using a phunnel bowl with tangiers. It's possible to smoke from a standard bowl, it just takes tons of time to teach yourself.

I do have a phunnel but right now it has some grenadine in it that I wasn't done with. I guess I'll just finish that and transfer the tangiers into it later. Thanks!

Ya, the funnel is really the better bet. It's not mandatory but you are going to have a serious mess to clean up using Tangiers in a standard bowl. The funnel design will mostly help with that. Watch some videos regarding packing and try to replicate proven methods. Noir and F-Line are both really picky tobaccos.

I like how Kalutika showed how to pack a Tangiers bowl. See if it helps you:

Yes, I did! Be aware it is not the easiest thing to master, in fact I still manage to screw it up now and then. Usually, if I'm getting a tickle it means one of two things, either too much heat or if the tickle just won't stop it means the pack was too loose. The difficult thing is figuring out how "tight" to pack the tobacco. I like to think of it this way, you don't want to "smash" the tobacco into the bowl, you want to kind of "push the tobacco together". It really is something you have to teach yourself. To be honest, heat management and packing of Tangiers is a bit easier with a phunnel bowl.
As was pointed out here, and in my video, using a standard bowl with Tangiers WILL make a mess of the hookah! The juice will run out onto the tray when you pull off the bowl, the stem will be coated and the water will be polluted.
As BIGPOPPA mentioned, check Kalutika's video on packing a phunnel, it's how I do it and it works! ChronikHookah (John) has a series of videos showing Eric (of Tangiers) using his method..

Well I don't like to self advertise... but if you insist :P

Haha. Thanks for the recommendation.

Dee, Thanks for the support.

It's really nice to know that people get something worthwhile out of my videos.

I smoke Tangiers out of my Egyptian all the time. It sounds like you needed to apply more heat by moving the coals closer to the middle.

I was able to get it going pretty good in my phunnel last night, but I had to stop after about 30 minutes because I felt like I was getting knocked on my ass. This stuff is strong! It probably didn't help that I was watching an episode of Mythbusters where they were testing hangovers between beer and liquor though, I think watching them get sick to their stomachs made me a little queasy too.
