Default Charcoal made of bamboo

Hey folks

Since I am from Germany, it's nearly impossible to get my hands on coconaras easily. So, the only alternative are cocobricos. Those are about twice as big as naras and I hate splitting coals, so I was looking for an alternative, but there was noone... till now! Sadly, no german shop imports coconars until today, but I found those charcoals made of bamboo! http://translate.google.de/translate...ue&sl=de&tl=en

Now, has anyone made any experiences with something similar, or even those? I think Aladin is a german retailer, but perhaps I am lucky^^

Anyhow, what do you think about them? They seem to have approx. the same size as coconaras I think?

haha yes probably you could^^ those coals are very new and it seems only aladin (who is known in germany for mostly crappy and cheap hookahs) produces them. perhaps they establish on the market, but i think it is hard to compete against cocobricos, since 99.9% of the german hookah smokers are using them. but i'll give those bamboo thingis a try until now, I read nothing bad about them and I like their shape better than the cocobrico one.

Yep. I used them when I was over in Japan. The only hookah bar there used them. They produced a great amount of heat, but didn't last too long. & smelled quite nasty.

Not really, but I did read the wiki on 'em

Personally I am huge fan of zoghal ghaleb coals just make sure you get the ones for use with a narghile rather then the cooking type. I also think that Al Awa'el coals are amazing but they are made from coconuts. Canary makes a great bamboo coal but they are a bit pricey, worth it but still pricey. Starlights are great and cheap coconut coals but they are made in the PRC so I won't buy them.

Hmmm. I wonder how these hold up? I would imagine bamboo made coals might have a strange musty taste to it just based on the consistency of bamboo wood.

Just about anything that is combustible can be converted to charcoal. From that point it's just a matter of economy. Bamboo is easily grown and very hearty. I wonder how they will stack up against cocnut coals considering the density of the initial plant matter. The denser it is the denser the final product and the longer the coal will last.
