Default 2 coals, no-go

i have read of people using only two coconaras on their phunnel bowl, getting favorable results. i have been using three, with favorable results. however, if there is a way i can get good flavor and smoke with only 2 coals, this would be nice, resulting in less coals used. So, if anyone has mastered this 2 coco technique, i would gladly become an apprentice.

By the way, my attempts with only 2 coals have resulted in poor, coal-ly flavor and thin smoke.

Have you tried using a wind cover?

You can always break them up. What size is the bowl anyways?

oh yeah, i have used a wind cover, and the smoke did build somewhat, but the flavor left a lot to be desired.

with my phunnel it always takes 3 for good smoke and flavor. So yeah i got through a lot of coals about little more then a kilo a month.

I've had luck with 2 coals on an egyptian bowl, but a phunnel in my experience requires three coals with most shisha. The compound the bowl is made of tends to spread the heat equally so that the entire bowl heats up, not just the part that holds the tobacco. In the end it means you might have to apply a little bit more heat than usual, but on the other hand heat-sensitive shishas will have less chances of burning.

The only tobacco I've had luck with using 2 coals on a phunnel is Tangiers Lucid. With a wind cover on top.

Try splitting them. I think PatelBadboy had a video on it. Give me a minute and I'll dig it up for you

I either do 3 full, or 2 cut in halves.

On a small phunnel 2 cocos are enough heat but the issue is heat distribution. 3 heat sources work better than 2 and you can get by with 3 halves actually. Personally I just use 3 whole charcoals because it gets the bowl up to temperature faster and the session will last longer than with halves. Just be careful not to overheat the bowl at first or place them on their sides.

Actually, the real reason is because I'm just too lazy to split the charcoals
