They light better on a surface that gets hot. Flames, in my experience (gas stove), take much longer because the heat isn't distributed enough. If you have an old small skillet or something like that, on the electric stove it might be better, though not sure how long it will take. Generally, I set the coals on the burner and leave them be, then go pack the bowl and all that, and come back to them and turn them over til they are completely red.

no they wont light with a lighter, and if you mean the glass topped stoves they will light but you run the risk of cracking the glass. Your best bet would be to go to walmart and pick up a coil burner they're like 8$

I light them on my gas stove and they take about 15 mins as heat doesn't get to every area of the coconaras so they need to be turned halfway through. Don't know if you can buy those little coil burner things in the UK but I'm happy to light them on my gas stove via flames. Never liked the quick lights at all, always tasted funny to me....

i know took a lot longer today, funny thing is, when i get them outside on my Vortex, they still looked a bit black and not glowing red...and then after 20 or so minutes I experienced my first 'shisha vomit' .... not good!

Any other way of lighting these tricky little buggers?
