depends on what you are doing with it

I like hickory for chicken grilling, mesquite for burgers and steaks, pecan chips are great for smoking baby back ribs. cedar planks are good for grilling fish on. chips and planks arent really coals though just thought id throw those in for good measure.

in terms of hookah i love Akhla but they are hard to come by these days. not a huge fan of coconut coals as they ash weird and need a bit more up keep thru out the session.

CH quicklights, belgian nats are good too

I've heard several people say this and I don't get it. I use Coconara's exclusively and I don't ever do anything more than I would with any other coal.

to me it just seems like you have to be constantly flipping them over or else you lose your heat.

I def reccommend ******* Hookah coals. He just switched up the recipe a bit, so the new ones could conceivably be less awesome, but from the sounds of it they have only improved. I will find out tomorrow.

You might not be heating them thoroughly enough?

I used to have to manage my Cocos more, but recently I cook them a bit more and I only have to ash/flip them once for a bowl.

Yeah, I never flip my coco's. They get a little black on the bottom, but it doesn't effect anything.

i personally like exoticas, they are pretty nice, last a while, and i like how they are finger coals, lets them sit on the edge of the bowl nicely to heat it up evenly.

i've also used AF cocos, my only coco coal i've ever used, they are pretty sweet, but i would have to say i think i like my exoticas better, plus they are cheap
