Default Question regarding purge valve on KM

I just got my KM and I am going to be smoking out of it VERY soon (AMG SO EXCITING!) My past POS hookahs were never great with the purge and I want to make sure I know what i'm doing.

The valve is supposed to be loose or will it work if it's tight on there?

How often should I purge? How do I know i purged enough?

Thanks!

I keep my purge fairly tight because i don't purge that often. But for myself i only purge if the smoke is getting a too hot and is starting to get harsh. I purge the move the coals or fix the heat accordingly...

So it leave it on tightly until you're ready to purge and then you loosen it?

It doesn't really matter how tight you have the purge cap on there as long as the ball is sealing properly and has enough room to lift so you can actually purge. With a KM, it should be fine finger tight assuming you are using a purge cap that typically comes on KMs.

As for purging itself, it's personal preference really. If you manage heat well then you may never have to purge. Some people like to do a quick purge if they haven't taken a hit in a while, IOW the smoke has been sitting idle in the vase for too long.

no.. leave the cap on snugg.. there is no need to mess with the cap when purging.. jus blow into the hose to blow the smoke out of the vase..

You don't have to loosen the valve on a KM, just make sure the ball is in there and BLOW! The valve covering allows the ball to lift and the smoke to clear. When you stop blowing the ball lowers and seals again.

Yeah, I keep mine finger tight. I usually only purge when the smoke gets harsh (then also take a coal off), and I purge all the smoke in the base out (usually only takes less than a whole breath on a KM). Do you have a plastic bb to replace the metal one (if not, I can send you some...I have plenty).

Also, btw, I haven't tried the pledge w/ mint yet. You're still safe.

Nothing wrong with it. It's just easier to purge with a plastic one, plus you don't have to worry about it rusting (like mine did after the first day smoking out of my KM...i even coated it in oil like someone suggested).

Lol. Will do since you say so.

Nothing wrong with the metal BB, it will just rust over time. I had one rust in one week. Plastic won't rust and it is lighter, so easier to purge. Plus for $3 you get 2000 of them and you are set for a long time. If you lose your BB, who care you have more.

Almost said the exact same thing Xero, lol.

I use metal ones occasionally. Just make sure to pull your purge apart when you clean it, and set the ball aside to dry, NOT in the purge valve with the screw on cap, it will rust.

1. No need to loosen then valve
2. replace with a 6mm air soft BB, prevents many clogs and they are cheap to replace
3. you are done purging when no more smoke comes out
4. blow gently or you may force water up your stem and ruin your session
5. I purge if the hose has been resting or if it got to hot to remove the harsh smooke

I purge everytime I pass the the hose ( just slightly, enough to empty the hose), or when I'm moving coals. I don't care about the smoke at this point, I just do it to prevent ghosting. A current formidable opponent to my recent hookah endeavors.

As others have said, you can tighten your cap all the way down. However, if the jets fo smoke when you purge are directed right at your vase, you might loosen it to the poitn where that doesnt happen any more. My KM double pear corroded right where the moke hit it after like.... a week. I was PISSED. I suppose you could also do something silly like "wipe it down after each use" but who has time for that?

Keep it tight it wont make a difference, it purges perfectly either way, and i purge it randomly for no reason, but people usually purge when the smoke is harsh or too clear the chamber

Yeah, I tend to purge mine after:

-Adjusting/Ashing coals
-If it's gotten harsh, purge it, adjust heat, see if it's improved
-If I haven't taken a draw in a bit

like sam said, it's a tight fit. Generally it'll just take a little pressure from blowing to purge the base. A lot of times the ball bearing does get stuck once in awhile. Just the nature of the game haha.
