Default Burning Vortex Bowl

I don't know if it's just me... but after about.. 15 sessions with a vortex bowl, it starts to get black on the upper sides of the bowl and all around the spire. I try to get rid of it by excessive scrubbing or even running a razor blade to scrape it off, but to no avail.

Has this happened to any of you and will it ruin the flavor of future shisha sessions? How do you get it completely clean?

Thanks!

I've read having it sit in boiling water then cleaning it off afterward.

I'm getting some of that black stuff too on my bowl

Yes it will massively effect your smoke, and the way it burns/tastes. Everytime im done smoking and am cleaning the bowl(i clean everthing right after smoking EVERY TIME) i take the foil that was on the bowl, crumple it, and use it as a scrubber to remove the carbon buildup. much like steel wool. the wrinkles in the foil help and you do have to use some force.

boiling water with baking soda helps. Lemon juice is another good thing to try in the water.

Are you talking about the upper rim on thr bowl? If you are then I dont think you can take the black, burnt shisha off because that part of the bowl isnt coloured or glazed, thats how my one is. I dont use mine much though, I use my phunnel more

Yeah after 3 bowls and mine already has the black stuff on the spire and around the lower edges of the bowl (glazed part). I tried scrubbing but no good. I just make sure the holes are clear so air can get through. I'll be picking up a phunnel soon though so hopefully it doesn't happen on that one too

This happened to me, too, but it does absolutely nothing to the flavor or smoke in my sessions. I use my vortex so much more than my small phunnels and each time I do, it's a great time.

If its on the glazed part then I guess I dont use mine much, you get it on the phunnel aswell but I use a sponge to scrub it off and iv noticed that the glaze has gone abit thin around the rim. Really need to buy another one

I've definitely noticed this too and while cleaning it I broke the spire...lol. It's all good though because I now use it as a phunnel. The trick to cleaning a vortex is not to let the tobacco burn and to soak your bowl in water right after smoking. My Tangiers phunnel bowl has never had a problem with cleaning even if shisha is burnt. It is much better made and the glaze on it is infinitely better than my vortex.

yeah its very common, i solved this one by a quick trip to home depot, basic grill cleaner, yes i know it toxic and some steel wool. spray and let it sit then scrub away, then wash it out completely a few times and that should do it

that's damn good idea!

I usually just crumple up the foil into a fat stick and use it to scoop out the hot shisha from the bowl then throw it all in the trash lol. I've never thought of scrubbing with it.

I tried steel wool on mine. It worked, but took some time. I tried using heavy sand paper and it came right off.

Same as hookahlungs here. It doesn't change anything. I keep it as clean as I can without getting crazy and breaking it.

Think of it as "seasoning" .. it is not a big deal. I have never cleaned my bowls with anything more than warm water. I smoked some very complex hookah blend last night and could pick out each of the flavors. The burnt ring won't effect taste.

If you really want to clean it, put it in some boiling water and it will loosen it up.

Cheers!

This happens to me as well and it doesn't affect the flavor of the session. I just clean it up with a mixture of baking soda and lemon juice.

I must have used my vortex bowl for a over a year consistently and dont have any residue on the glazed bit. Using steel wool cleans it rite of, and occasionally i would use some leom juice and baking ppowder. I do however clean it pretty much rite after ive used it and on the odd occasion that i havent and left it a few days it has been alot harder to take off!

Agreed
It's just build up of burnt carbon on your glaze
It can't affect anything at all
