Default Vortex Bowl Hole Problem

Just received my first vortex bowl today, and one of the four holes is blocked. It appears that it was never open prior/post production ("firing"). So the ceramic has a dimple, but is filled with material that has been fired and rock hard. Question: Anyone have any ideas on how to open? My only idea is to try to drill it out, but I'm worried I'l crack the spire top off! The upside is that is does smoke well, but I'm thinking it's only "running" on 75% of the openings since it should have 4 out of 4 open, instead of the 3 out of 4 it has now... Anyone ever drill a bowl? The vendor I purchased it from has treated me well, so I'd hate to call and complain...

Tell the vendor first, let them know you will try to drill it and if it works, problem solved. It you break it, they'll still send you another I bet.

Here is what I would try:

First, it is possible that the hole was there before it was glazed and then plugged when refired. It that is the case, you have a great shot at opening it.

Get a #40 or smaller bit. You can find one at any hobby/model train store. Wrap some duct tape around it so it will be large enough to fit in a Dremel tool (assuming you have one). Once the hole is made take a very small round file and work it till it's cleaned out.

Dude I think your chances of getting a problematic vortex are very slim (people who have problems with blocked holes etc. are in the minority from what I can gather)...but if you do, just send it back for a replacement. Blocked holes aren't native to vortex bowls because I've seen many Egyptian bowls with similar problems.

My Vortex arrived this morning and it's perfect! Can't wait to take it for a test drive this afternoon.

True that. I bought an Egyptian bowl that came with a hole plugged.

Drill it with a dentist drill bit then gently clean with a needle file

Make sure you go slow and keep the ceramic cool from cracking
Go little before you go big on the bit.
Get the sharpest drill bit you can find ie the Ceramic bits with a carbined(sp?) tip.
That should do the trick
