Default New member with a question.

I can't taste the fruity flavor of my shisha any time i smoke. Either at the hookah bar or when i am at home smoking from my own. I don't really understand why. Is the ability to taste the flavors in the shisha acquired?

Thanks

It was Romman Strawberry. I used golden coals 33mm. No I do not smoke cigs.

I would recommend that you try a different brand, nakhla or Al Fakher. I personally would recommend trying nakhla two apples its a good flavour to start with provided your ok with it having a strong hint of anise. Also you whould definitely notice some difference if you use natural coals instead of the quicklights because naturals dont give off much flavour so you taste the shisha more. Try a coconut based coal, coconaras are the best IMO.

What Luv said.

Romman is notorious for being light on the flavor, and the coals definitely aren't helping. I used to use the 33m goldens when I first started smoking. They are terrible.

I would just try something in your face and strong, like a Mizo Guava maybe. Or a Nakhla Marguerita - if you can't taste those you can't taste anything.

I have a feeling that this is most likely a coal problem, though.

I had a friend that I smoke with a couple of times. He could never taste any of the flavors no matter what the brand or flavor of it. We think it has to do with his allergies because he has severe allergies and had to get shots for them. It might have to do with that if you continue to not be able to taste any flavor or brand.

This might sounds crazy and offensive in some way, but trust me its not my intent.
If you dont brush your tongue, try doing so. It will help clean off any "residue" off the surface of your tongue which can retain a lot of "stuff"(don't want to gross people out). Having a clean tongue will help keep your taste buds fully exposed and clean when you try to savor something. Also, try to exhale through your nose a bit and the rest through your mouth once you take a puff. Your taste/smell sensory organs are very closely intertwined.

Gross as it may be this is sound advice.

Also, do you smoke anything other than hookah? Cigarettes can seriously damage your sense of taste and smell.

You might be exhaling the smoke too quickly. I still do this sometimes and when I do this I can't really taste the flavor. Try exhaling more slowly or better yet, try exhaling through your nose slowly. And like others said, try some stronger flavors as well.

purse your lips to help add some restriction to the inhale, and let the smoke roll over the tip of your tongue.

what kind of hose are you using, smaller gauge hoses have more flavor

try using a coco nara tip, they condense the smoke

dont pull hard on the hookah, drink the smoke in slowly as if you were trying to sip from a milkshake

try some intense flavors

brush your teeth before you smoke and use mouthwash too

try making a fruit head, they tend to be tastier than any variety of bowl

do any or all of these things

Wow! Many great tips! I remember smoking a hookah for the first time and the smoke being so rich and flavorful, I just don't seem to be getting that level of flavor now.
Thanks for the sage advice.

I swear you can get really concentrated flavor if you roll your tongue and exhale through that. I might be crazy but personally i think it works

hi there, im having similar problem....i always get great smoke but little taste...only flavours i can taste well are al faker grape& mint, and double apple....i only use coconara coals, mya bowl, standard kind of shisha with one hose, put ice and water in the base - sometime a couple tablespoons of milk also. im in the UK also which makes it hard to get hold of any good range of flavours.

First off stop smoking Romman and don't worry your not missing any great flavors if anything it will probably taste like soap. Second switch to a natural coal because they give off almost no flavor and rarely mask the flavor of your shisha, listen to what the others have said about brushing your tongue and trying bolder flavors. Hope this helps. Oh also for the two new guys that posted in this thread here is some advice. When starting a thread that relates to hookah smoking and some type of problem your having it is very helpful to post what tobacco, coals, hose, foil/screen and bowl you are using. This will help us help you as we won't be having to try and guess why your having this problem. Cheers!
