Default Very small burn holes on my foil, should i be worried ?

I'm using heavy duty aliminium foil, but every time i check the foil after i'm done smoking i notice some of the holes i poked have a small burned rim around them.
Tobacco is not touching foil, coals are just a single quicklight.
This is not supposed to happen right ?

This is normal. As long as the shisha isn't burning it's fine.

.... The foil isn't burning. The "burn holes" you see are the molasses attached to the foil and it leaves a residue when it burns. Its not the foil that is burning, its whats attached to the foil that was burning.

I'm betting he is seeing it on the top of his foil, and therefore it wouldn't/shouldn't be residue up there. I see this occasionally too, haven't worried to much yet.

as essam said, it might just be something on the foil burning, ie, residue from whatever you are using to poke the holes in the foil that is left there when it is pulled back up from poking into the moassel. or it could be the metals discoloring as they tend to do when subjected to high heat. it's not burning but just discoloring. nothing to worry about, really. smoke happy.

Yep top of foil, and the tobacco is packed well below the rim

Why shouldn't it be up there? Here is a little experiment for you guys. Try lathering just the bottom of the foil with molasses, poke holes through it, and put some coals on there. You will get those "burn holes" on the entire surface of the foil and a lot more residue on the bottom.

Aluminum foil burns at 660 degree Celsius. If your coals produce that much heat your house would be on fire.

If your pack is close enough to the foil where it gets "lathered up", your doing it wrong imo.

Actually I had a similar issue with Frollie, only on a much bigger scale today...
Check this:

The upper foil layer is like 1/5th of an inch away from the lower foil layer (weirdo packing technique but it's worked great for ages until this happened), the flavor is below that, so there's no way it got lathered up or even got in contact with any of it at all. The original holes were in the size that you can see around those 2 huge craters. The only thing that touched that foil was a couple of burning red cocobricos. The foil isn't cut and folded inwards or whatever, I checked. The cut is too clean and the foil is completely missing, the rims of the holes are singed. What on earth could have done that?

When you poke your holes, does the utensil possibly come in contact with the shisha in the bowl? If it does, then it's pulling molasses and glycerin back through the hole with it, causing "burn" marks after heat is applied.

Also, make sure that you're using good quality foil. Some of the cheaper brands are coated with something that can cause burn marks, weird smells and foul tastes.

Try shifting your coals during smoking more. If you just let them sit in the same spot for hours, that may be why the foil is discoloring.

How witty indeed. Wait, no, but no need to analyze that eh...

Of course the problem is something I did, otherwise it wouldn't happen once after about a million sessions, would it? The point is what was it.
