Default Vortex/Phunnel Bowl and Coal Question

In most videos, everyone uses a phunnel/vortex bowl with a few square coals. I dont have a vortex or a phunnel and I mostly use those big circle coals. Just wondering, are these coals okay to use on these kind of bowls? I plan to get a vortex or phunne.

Yup the circular coals work just fine and work with any bowl.

you can use them. but the square coals you see are the natural coals. i don't ever use the circular quick lite coals anymore. if you try natural coals (particularly coco nara coals) i think you will prefer them over your coals every time. i don't even find the qls enjoyable. it ruins your session in my opinion.

if you use the phunnel/vortex bowl, you are probably using it to enhance the flavor, but in my opinion like i said, i think quick lights taint the flavor. so kinda seems pointless to me. but if you prefer quick lights and use them on every other bowl, there is nothing wrong with using them on the vortex.

Hmm..thanks. Another question..is it okay to just put one big circle coal on the middle of the vortex or phunnel bowl? Or do you guys suggest its better to use a few smaller circle coals and place them around the bowl?

If you want to use those big ql's (40mm I'm assuming), then just break one in half and use the 2 pieces (or more, depending on how heat sensitive your tobacco is) on the edges on the bowl, don't place it in the middle of either vortex or a phunnel.

Putting a coal on the middle of the bowl isn't good. Start on the sides and work your way around the circle, this will use the tobacco much more efficiently.

yes.. like who ever said (too lazy to scroll up) the Square coals most of us use are Natural coals.. I highly suggest them over Quick Lights...

But your Round (Quick Lights) will work fine with any bowl.

Is that the same for a vortex bowl though? I think that it would be more efficient in the midde if you had one 40mm. The middle spire is kind of like the edge of a bowl. You aren't directly over the shisha, but evenly around the entire bowl.

You can find square coals in nats and QLs... Coals and your smoke work best and produce better heat management by keeping them always on the outer rim of the bowls, and never in the center. I get great smokes with various bowls with two coals 180 degrees apart, and then I just rotate them about every 15 minutes about 45 degrees to keep the heat even. Never fails for me...

My boyfriend and I started off using our hookah with the quick lite coals but since having coconara's it's been so much better, much smoother, longer lasting definitely and less harsh/chemically.

Bear in mind that these are specifically coconut coals.

Natural coal, nowadays, just means that it is not a quick light.

True natural charcoal is just lumps of carbonized wood in no specific shape.

I used to use the quick lights but I switched to natural coals. Now that I did that I noticed quick lights have a funny taste! Natural coals are a whole lot better!

3x QL 40mm coal work fine if I place them on the edge of my vortex bowl. When using QL's (40mm) and phunnel/vortex I think you'll have to cut them in half, but you can break them easily so thats no prob.
