Default Troubleshooting?

Ok, so I'm a little new to hookah. So I've just bought a small 10 inch hookah to start. Now I know from past experiences that this hookah can produce amazing clouds as my friend bought one before, exact same thing. My issue is that I'm not getting very good clouds. I have tried packing my bowl different ways many times and have had my friend pack it too, however we just cannot get the kind of smoke we get out of his. Using the exact same setup we have gotten massive clouds from his. At one point we even pulled the bowl from my hookah, put it on his, and got massive clouds during the same session with same coals. Any ideas?

That's the hookah, we have the exact same thing but his is way better for some reason. Also we use coco nara coals.

Sounds like you have a leak somewhere. Is the purge valve bearing sealing correctly (is it missing completely)? Is the stem to base seal good? Hose to stem nice and air tight?

Your setup is not airtight. I would check the stem by holding the bottom of it shut and blow air into it. Same thing with the hose. I would also check your grommets situation.

The setup is airtight, I have checked everything and tried to inhale by covering the stem with my hand and inhaling. I get nothing but suction. The grommets are all new and still in great condition.

Does the draw feel the same on the two or is it more restricted on yours? The only other thing I can think of is that yours may have something blocking airflow internally. I recently saw a thread where someone found a packing peanut stuck somewhere, in the downstem I think.

EDIT: Are you using the same hose between the two? The hose itself may be defective, clogged somehow maybe?

It feels like a tad harder draw on mine maybe, but hardly even noticeable if at all. And we didn't use the same hose. It may be the issue. We'll try my hose on his tonight and post the results. But the difference is really dramatic. Think a hose would really cause that big of an issue?

Yes it could. If yours has some blockage in it, even fairly minor it could restrict the airflow enough to have a noticeable affect. The first time you try a Nammor or other wide gage hose, it's mindblowing how big the difference is!

Well, it seems I'm gonna have to get some upgrades soon.

Thanks for giving me an excuse to buy stuff, lol. The fiance doesn't like me spending money on this lol.

i used to have the same problem, my problem was that there was something clogged in the purge valve, for some reason there was something stuck in there when we bought and once removed my hookah would produce much more smoke

make sure there are no clogs anywhere that could cause it to produce much less smoke

Try heating up the tobacco without smoking it, put on alot of coal and just let it sit for about 6 or 7 minutes, then take off all but a couple coals and go for it, you should get big smoke by the third or fourth pull

Well, seems it wasn't my hose. Mine worked fine with his hookah. Gonna do a detail look over comparing the 2 to find anything different with mine that should not be there. Thanks for the help so far guys.
