Default Quick question HP!

Could a cigar humidor? (is that how it's spelt?) Work for storing shisha at all?

I just read about some of the older styles getting mold. So, i got to thinking. Would this actually work?

I'm not really sure how a humidor would prevent mold.

I wasn't trying to sound like a dick, i just meant i don't smoke cigars and therefore don't know the benefits of a humidor.

I'm going to say no on this one since cigars are dried tobacoo and hookah tobacco is wet. Mold likes to grow in warm wet places, so it might make the mold grow quicker in brands like DM.

Any micro-biologists care to weigh in on the subject?

It also sucks the moisture out and kills the flavor.

Why should tobacco need to be chilled?

something to consider too is that the humidors are lined with spanish cedar which is very aromatic, your tobacco will all eventually taste like spanish cedar... although some very good traditionals have a cedar note to them lol

What is the length of time one could store shisha in a ziplock bag and container before it goes "bad"?

I was actually thinking about DM in an Humidor.. since you pretty much have to order it in large quantities. At one of the shops near me.. they store the shisha in a humidor.. but i think that is because it has a lock on it.. i don't know if it helps keep the shisha tobacco longer or not. Humidors are made to keep the air moist which in turns makes [cigars] moist, and they are supposed to stay below 25C/75F, as well as below 75% relative humidity. I would imagine this would have a positive effect, however like someone said earlier.. there is the possibility the wood could add its flavoring to the tobacco. Maybe someone with a DM stash could test the theory? ATM i don't have enough money to try DM.. plus i have those 20 plus samples of SS and my original stash.

Interesting question. I'm not sure how it would work in a cedar humidor, though perhaps some good traditional tobaccos would be interesting. That said I'd hate to taste some of the drippy American tobaccos with a cedar note.

Then there's the giant plastic/glass humidors that aren't cedar that just control the humidity and temp. I'm guessing it wouldn't make enough of a difference to bother with but that said I have no idea.

Well, if you put the tobacco in a ziplock then a humidor wouldnt be able to do it's job... keep the tobacco moist and most of the time a humidor is used to keep the tobacco from drying out, since hookah tobacco is already moist then a humidor wouldnt be necessary to maintain moisture. If you keep your tobacco in a cool place in a ziplock bag or in the containers it decreases the amount of air around the tobacco thus lessening the chance of mold growth Nothing lasts forever so just stinkin smoke it! lol

Oh, and i got a A in micro biology lol... molds like to grow in warm moist places or cool moist places depending on the species of mold... but the less air it has the less mold can spread because it needs oxygen to survive :-D
