Default Dangers of (fake?) Quick lites!

Yesterday, I was lighting my Quick lite coal and it exploded on my face, narrowly missing my eyes! It was a lucky escape. I don't know whether they were the real or fake ones, but they looked just like the ones I normally get, and never had problem with. Right afterwards, I threw them all in the bin. Its a shame we don't have much natural alternative in the UK, but from now on I will only get my coals from America.

The brand of the coal was Swiftlite if my memory serves me right.

All quick-ligth coals explotes. It is with salietra (chemical element, part of gunpowder), so it can explode anytime. Don't hold it near your face. You can light it, and put on hookah plate. Whats a problem?

Wow, I didn't know that. Its the first time it exploded on me, and I have been using them for about 4 years.

Try some naturals! If you have the means of heating them up ... they provide a noticeably better smoke ...

Not sure if fake's had anything to do with it but I agree, QL's can be quite dangerous when they spark up like that which is why:

1. I keep them as far away from my face as possible when lighting them
2. I only light them outside
3. If I need to blow on them I make sure I close my eyes

I feel your frustration. Here in SA the options are probably even more limited. I also use Swift-Lite QL's and out of all the QL's I've been able to get my hands on over here, these are about the best. Would be interesting to see how they compare with Goldens or Three Kings. I desperately want to order some Exotica's but the shipping prices are so exorbitant that I've decided that I'll only get them when I order a new Hookah.

I'm glad I decided to give Exoticas a try. Natural coals are so much better than QL's. It's like the difference between the hose that comes with your hookah and a Nammor or Razan. The difference is night and day.

That why, I so want to try natural coals, but I don't know where to get it. I'm never tried it. Always using QL's...

I feel your pain HiToKiRi, fellow south african here. I've also never used anything other than quick lites (swift lite/soex/hookah lite), if i ever see anything other than than quick lites, I'm definitely buying them.

Agreed, but as we both know they're almost impossible to find around here. I've also used a QL brand called Jadebird which is probably also one of the better QL's I've used.
