Default Coal taste

Hey need some help over here , recently every time i pack a bowl and get to smoke, the coal over powers the taste of the shisha. The tobacco doesn't taste burnt or anything so its not burning, its just a nasty coal taste. I use nat wood coal and / or coconaras. Any suggestions?

Make sure U heat the coals all the way. I usually let mine cook on the stove for about 3 mins on one side and then flip them and cook another min or two on the other side until they are completly red. try that bud.

Make sue you start with your coals on the edge of the bowl and work to the center. Sometimes if the coals start out in the middle, the coal taste will settle itno the shisha and you'll taste it the entire time.

reynolds hd is usually good enough. And you've been smoking long enough to know that your coals should be lit thoroughly. I would suggest giving your hookah and hose a good cleaning simply to take that possibility of the table. You may also want to soak your bowl and give it a little scrub.Other than that, I'm stumped!

Yeah I agree about the coals. Make sure they are red hot.

But also I have noticed with smaller hookahs, you taste the coals way more. Making double foiling will help? Not too sure. Also is your hookah cleaned?

Coal taste is caused by 3 things -

1) Bad coals. Buy a high quality natural coal like Exotica and don't use quick lights ever

2) Not fully lighting your coals before you use them. Heat them until they are glowing and ash has formed on all sides.

3) Bad heat management. Use the right amount of coal for the type of bowl you use (if you're unsure what that means just ask) and move the coals every few minutes. every 10 minutes or so take the coals off the foil, blow away the dust, and gently scrape away the ash from the coals as they sit in a coal tray. Put the coals back and pull a bit more on the hose then you normally do to get the smoke going again. Replace coals as needed.

No matter the coal this issue can be resolved. Like everyone else said make sure your coals are completely red no black on the coal whatsoever. Start them on the outside of the bowl. Make sure your hookah is throughouly cleaned before the session. If you have the original hose that came with your hookah it is possible that the taste got stuck in your hose. I found that hoses with the metal coil on the inside hold onto the tastes more than washables. That being said blow through your hose for a while and see if you can knock out that taste I hope I helped.

The coals should impart NO taste at all. If you are getting coal taste, then something is definetly wrong. I once got a batch of QLs, and every bowl tasted like gasoline. I tossed the QLs and got some good quality coals.

I prefer Japanese style coals. They light easily with a torch-style lighter. They impart no taste at all. I like to light off one corner, until it glows. Then let it sit on the foil for a couple of minutes. Then start off with some gentle pulls on the hose. the smoke is light for the first couple of minutes, but as the coal gets hotter, the smoke and flavor increase proportionately.

I have used natural coals, sometimes. I prefer to light a Japanese coal first, start smoking as described above, then place a natural coal, on top of the Japanese coal. The natural coal ignites slowly, but by the time, the Japanese coal is expired, the Natural coal is glowing properly, and I continue smoking. Try this procedure.
