Default question about hookahs with ice catchers

would it make sense to put dry ice in one of them? It wouldn't melt like ice would and would be much colder.

Dry ice is solid Carbon Dioxide. I don't think that an infusion of pure CO2 in an area where people are breathing is such a good idea.

My friend and i talked about this actually...we both work at a pharmaceutical lab at the university of wisconsin and we talked about putting it in a regular ice chamber....and it doesnt vaporize that fast....aas long as the room is well ventilated you have enough oxygen to still breathe...co2 is not toxic...

But we were thinking of making a modded sealed ice chamber specifially for dry ice.....

You don't want to cool the smoke TOOOOO much! Just stick with ice .. and ice inthe base will be PLENTY cold enough, if not too much cold!?

better make it to be able to take 850 psi as a working pressure or else when it melts it will blow up

i wouldnt do it inside but out side i say go for it, maybe open the bottom of the chamber where you normally drain it to make sure the co2 goes out that way as apposed to trying to come up and maybe getting sucked up a little more. (it should have a hard time going up at all since it sinks but if it has to exit the chamber up near the bowl it could get sucked up, maybe)

yeah we thought about that as well....we were just gonna machine an entire stem that would have a built in co2 chamber...

i wouldn't be doing this cause i think it would improve the smoking experience...more as a science experiment....supercooling smoke sounds kinda cool (unless it freezes your lungs --- the reason why we ruled out liquid nitrogen chambers )

i still am really weary of this if its going to be pressurized (sealed), depending on how much dry ice you put in im not to sure how much pressure will build up, in fact if you put to much in the pressure will exceed 1800 psi (burst disk rating for a standard small CO2 tank).

i would seriously try to find a way to pressure test it is a safe way, add a blow off system or blow out disk, or just not make it sealed.

dont doubt your abilities, just have dealt with pressurized co2 enough to know its not a toy

not trying to knock your idea at all, just looking out for safety and the safety of the hookah

it may be easier/safer to coil some copper tubing around the stem, dump liquid co2 through it and let it vent off out side, then just have the little co2 that froze inside and the coldness of the copper chill it

hmm also thought, to get it to hold the psi it might be really top heavy
