You need to get some brushes of you don't have any. Run the brushes through the stem and rinse. Not much more than that will be necessary with stainless.

Brushes ... sometimes I use soap and sometimes baking soda with lemon juice.

If there is rust I use sandpaper to sand it

I just use hot(cold with vase) water, baking soda and occasianly mild liquid soap for the base. Using the cleaning brush sets every time.

I think the best way to clean any hookah, is with Rubbing Alcohol, and salt. the salt srubs any residue left in the chamber, and the alcohol sterilizes it. What you do is poop about an 1/8 of an inch of salt across the bottom (yes its a lot) and about 1/6 of the base full of alcohol. Swash it all around, and rinse with warm water, about 3-4 times.

With the downstem, poor some alcohol in it, while plugging the bottom, and shake. Again thoroughly rinse that.

Make sure to let it all air dry before smoking, and ENJOY! =]

i personally wouldn't want to be using salt as an abrasive on steel, just seems like your asking for some trouble. baking soda does the same job and polishes it more than a harsh scrubbing i would expect salt to give.

rinse and brush, maybe a little lemon or baking soda if needed, just make sure to dry it all out really well, stainless steel is not rust proof just rust resistant

If we could get our resident metalurgist to chime in, Fursaken will tell you why it's absolutely a bad idea to wash stainless with alcohol of any kind. And yes he is a metal specialist.

o i get why, its not the alcohol that does it, its the fact that is removes every think so well that there is nothing there to prevent it from oxidizing

on stainless though i really dont think it will be a big issue as long as you clean and dry your rig

isnt stainless steel meant to be rust resistant?

i was just going to use chlorine

i left a box cutter with a little bit of chlorine on it (granular) in my bag for a few days and forgot to clean it off, and well the blade was trash (25 cents o well) and the handle (only 5-6 bucks but it was a nice handle)

ph of 10.8-11.2 (iirc) depending on form (we used granular and liquid concentrate when i was a life guard that that stuff was potent). pretty corrosive (remember it oxidizes, thats how you get those whitest whites)
