Default Natural Coals (list/shape)

ok, ive been smokin for about 5months and i know i havent tried all the coals out there. i started w/ 3kings QL and went to exoticas, then back to QLs w/ aklhas.

i get the best smoke w/ disc shaped - dome topped coals - most shaped like ths are QLs only(from what ive seen)

i want to try more naturals but i cant stand the fact that most Nats are like squares and chunky blocks.

can you guys help list some naturals, name & shape?
ive tried only exoticas and i heard coconaras are very similiar but im lookin for disc shaped/dome topped naturals

I have one advice for you. DO NOT BUY NOUR CHARCOAL. Because of the following:
- They produce a huge amount of ASH
- shaped like cylinders and it is extermly difficult to break them into even pieces.
- inconsistent heat
- Takes long time to light them

I have used Al Hambra and they are all kinds of odd shapes! But they are awesome! I have also used Nour and Diamante. I would really like to try some Saalaam Natural Orange Wood Coals.

Experiment! You may find a coal you really like. I think I may use the Al Hambra or Diamante tonight, I haven't used those in a while

Cheers!

Someone was talking about pyramid shaped coals at some point...can't remember what brand they were....I can't think of any naturals in the shape of dome topped discs like QLs tho.

Sinbads ash like bulk naturals do, very fine and a lot of it. The natural you would probably like are Belgians, they are the same shape as their QLs, disc. Green and yellow package 6 per sleeve. Several vendors here carry them.

I haven't seen any disc shaped natural coals. The best ones I can recommend are the Coconara. They don't ash much and burn at a very consistant temp and last a long time. They are a nice size but they are squares. Two of them do a great job on most sized bowls, or 3 if you are using a larger funnel bowl.

I've tried these, they work great, but extremely dense and difficult to break into manageable chunks

I think he means cylinder as in "round log shape" (please correct me if I'm wrong)

why dont you like square coals, the reason QLs have that space under them is so that you dont have to flip them. you can get great smoke with natruals you just have to use more than 1 piece, light them fully, and flip them some, more work but i get much better results from naturals and a much better taste

i dont knwo what it is but i just better smoke w/ the cup shape bc it lets air flow under the coals(w/o coverin up all the holes it sits on) and it really does heat my bowls up quick, almost instant smoke

yeah i might just get some pre-cut natural squares, ive only dealt w/ exotica fingers and those are annoying

Belgian Naturals are 40mm disc, exactly the same as their quicklights and great quality.

the exoticas were kind of annoying for me. they smoked fine but there was a lot of ash and cutting them made a mess and was annoying, but it was nice for heat management, but with the coconaras and a wind cover it worked fine for management for me

I have to agree with CocoNaras, they are consistent and I have yet to hear anyone complain about them.

You should get John's ************* quick light coals, they are 100% coconut and they light under 1 min. They are similar to CocoNara coals, but if you like moving the coal to your right spot without ashing that much, CocoNara would be your best friend, but I don't mind at all.

yeah I have to admit! I really like the natural coconut coals! I've started using them a while back when a guy named "smiley" was selling them. I still have some actually! lol

I like the new coconut coals better, I like the perfect shape and consistent burn. Plus they don't ash very much at all! I am talking the naturals though ..

The quicklight coconut coals ash a lot, and burn out in half the time. If you have a way to light them and the patience to wait for them to light, go for the natural coconut coals! Coconara or CH

i just ordered a bunch of CH coals since they are comparable to coconaras from the reviews ive seen and have a lot more in a box for the same price.

if they are as good, or even if they burn a little faster the price savings will be great
