Default purge valve

I am having issues with purging my hookah. Whenever I go to purge, the valve shoots out air and no smoke but some smoke will come out of the top of my bowl. It gets pretty annoying having to take out the stem to get all of the smoke out. I can't say that I have the best quality hookah but I don't think the valve should suck as bad as it does. Any advice on how to correct this issue?

Take the purge valve apart. Inspect the holes in the cap to make sure they're not clogged.
Make sure the ball bearing isn't coated over.
Then clean the livin' bejeezus out of it.
Soak the parts overnight in soapy water and lemon juice if you have to.

Quick question what hookah are you using. Put up a pic of the chamber of the stem.

I asked for pics because if you have a common chamber or a MYA you will not purge regardless of how hard you try. You will need to modify it to some extent to get it to work.

From what I can see you have a direct chamber and it should purge without a problem. If all else fails jam a straw into the opening to the purge valve port and cut it so that when you go to put it into the base it sits like an inch or two above the water level. This is real peculiar......When you go to purge do you go ahead an give it force or just barely enough?

I try purging forcefully and I try weak purges but I get the same results. Air comes out of the valve but no smoke and as I said I do get some smoke to come out of the top of the bowl but not much and it doesn't clear the whole base.

Haha photolinger I think that question could have been asked differently but I can sit there and purge all day and all I am going to get is air coming out of the valve. I might just have to stick with taking the stem out and then blowing the smoke out with the hose and maybe think about getting a nour.

I went to try to purge my hookah after adding the straw as you said and it seemed to work fine. Much of the smoke came out, not all, but most which is pretty much what I was hoping for. I then decided to be an a-hole and I purged the shit out of it and water came up my stem, ruined the bowl I had, and destroyed my LAST two coals. I have never done that before, is my hookah supposed to allow me to purge so hard that water goes up the stem?

thoroughly clean the hookah, use the stem brushes, it can be your water level as well; water shouldn't shoot up the stem if it is set up properly.

physics dude. you cant blow that hard. it creates air flow that cannot escape fast enough through the purge valve, which creates pressure that pushes down on the water. the water pressure has to be released somewhere...logically speaking, it would have to go up the tube.

ive drilled my purge valves to create an insane amount of air flow, so you can blow as hard as you possibly can and nothing will happen...however i dont really super purge, i just drilled it so the air escapes faster really.

Ball type check valves like our purge valves don't exactly have the best flow profiles. Another issue is. Which do you think has a greater area. The are of all the holes in your purge valve cap combined or the cross sectional area of your downtube?
